A couture textile designer
Kate is a couture textile designer, and produces handmade fashion accessories.
Kate graduated at Birmingham City University with a First Class BA Honours in Textile Design, this lead to working for a Jewellery designer in Birmingham’s Jewellery quarter. This gave her some valuable business experience and in 2006 she took the plunge and set up her own small business as Kate Mead Designs which she has continued to build up over the last four years. Kate also enjoys working within schools, colleges and universities, running inspirational workshops for students wanting further information on self employment within the creative sector.
All of her pieces are designed and made by Kate using dedicated hand beading and fabric manipulation techniques.
She has exhibited at a number of shows including One Year on New Designers - London, Origin - London, Handmade in Britain - Bath. She has also collaborated with Fashion Designer Jacob Kimmie to have her accessories featured in London Fashion Week, which included two unique dresses designed for the London catwalk consisting of 9000 individual wrapped lustre beads.
A range of Kate’s work has also been featured in Selfridges London’s main showcase windows alongside fashion designers Alexander Mc Queen and Stella McCartney
Kate continues to build on her designs and ranges broadening into different areas, and is currently producing a new range of necklaces, purses, and brooches
She stocks a range of galleries across the Uk and sells work directly to the public through trade shows and exhibitions
Kate also welcomes commissions where clients can have a piece made to suit in any style and colour combination.
